Each week of Lent, CRS Rice Bowl features a country in which Catholic Relief Services is doing good work. You can find these Stories of Hope at CRSRiceBowl.org. This year, we’re taking this a step further with an exercise called Crossroads of the World, an exercise conceived by Catholic Relief Services and adapted by our Christian Formation Team.
You might have noticed that there are 5 pictures on the Justice & Peace bulletin board in the commons, representing a young person from each of these countries. Under each picture is a story introducing the young person. Then, you’re asked to make a decision. Based on what you decide, you’re directed to a continuation of your story elsewhere in the building, where you make another decision, and so forth. Needless to say, each story has twists and turns, depending on the decisions you make. Anyone who’s in middle school or older is welcome to make a “mini-pilgrimage” with one of these young people any time you’re here in the building. You can even make it as a family. It should only take 10 or 15 minutes to make the walk, and then there are some discussion questions to help you reflect on your journey. You can even make the same walk more than once, and reflect on how different decisions bring different results.
Each Friday of Lent, we’ll gather in the social hall at 6:00 to reflect on the featured country of the week. This Friday, for example, we’ll look at Pakistan. We’ll share a meal from the Dominican Republic, and make a walk with Nasha. After the walk, there will be an opportunity to share some reflections on your walk, then, we’ll end with Stations of the Cross. Again, if you can’t make it on Friday evenings, you’re welcome to make the walk or pray the stations any time the building is open throughout Lent.
If you can't make it to church, we'll feature a "virtual walk" each week, where you can followthe story online. To make a vitual walk with Nasha from Pakistan , click on her picture.
