How did we come up with the name? When you live your life as Jesus taught, when you break down the walls that divide us, when you erase all the prejudice and look at each other as brothers and sisters in Christ we become……………………
Welcome to One Nation Youth Group! We are starting something new and exciting, and we are hoping to reach all the middle and high schoolers at the Church of St. Thérèse! We invite you to read on and learn the fun and faithful things we have done, and plan to do. We currently have 20 members, but please don’t be shy! We are a big family - but we are not complete without you! So, go get your friends and family and come join us!
Now, we are not just a group of faith followers. We do a lot of fun activities. We come together once a month to talk about upcoming events and to have fun with each other. At those meetings we do lots of fun activities and eat until we can’t eat anymore. We also plan a service project. We even have our own little area we can call our own! We have a decorated room that is welcoming to all people. Did I mention we have our own T-shirts? Have we hooked you yet? Ok, well read on. One Nation also cares a lot about the people in our community. We always take time out of our lives to help others. Just recently, One Nation volunteered at the H.E.R. Shelter. This is a shelter for battered/abused woman and children. We played with the children and brought ice cream and goodies to eat. We also brought a little something for the residents to help brighten their day a bit. It is so much better to give than to receive! We have gone bowling and even made the ornaments (you hopefully noticed) on our Church Christmas tree this year. What else you ask? Well, we also participated in Stations of the Cross and helped during the Holy Triduum, and how about that Easter Egg Hunt???
I think you can clearly see our purpose is to set good examples for all youth. It’s time for a change and together we can turn this world around. If you are wondering what cool things One Nation will be doing next, don’t worry because I already got that part covered. On June 30, we will be meeting at St. Thérèse to head over to Oasis to prepare and serve lunch. Also, during Fun-N-Food Fest held at St. Thérèse in September, we will be doing something TOP SECRET that only the members of One Nation know about. Trust me you won’t want to miss this, it will be the greatest thing Chesapeake has ever seen!
All thru the summer we will have pool parties with life guard attended swimming, food and volleyball! Also, if you are thinking what amazing thing will be happening in October don’t ponder any longer! On October 26, One Nation will be hosting a LOCK-IN from 7 PM Friday night to 8 AM Saturday morning. This being our first lock in, we are limiting this to members only, but each member is allowed to bring one friend. Parents don’t worry, adequate supervision will be there. We will also have a DJ, video games projected on the walls, movies, and tons of food! But that’s not all, come dressed in costume for our Costume Contest!! Yes - there will be prizes!! Just don’t forget to bring a change of clothes so you don’t have to be dressed like Elvis all night long (unless you want to).
So much to write and so little room - did I mention we are working on getting involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Food Bank and Roc Solid? Ok one more thing. Get ready for WHEEL OF FORTUNE NIGHT! We will be searching for 9 contestants who will each pick a charity to play for. One Nation will cook and serve dinner, clean up and MC the event. We are brushing up on our letter flipping talents and brainstorming on Same Name skills! You know you want to be a part of this. How many times have you sat on the couch watching and yelling out the answers? You know who you are, thinking “how could they not see that?” Well now it’s YOUR turn! Watch for more information in the bulletin over the summer months. One Nation is just bustling with fun things to do in the upcoming months so don’t miss out, join us!
As One Nation gathers together, we hold one voice of the same faith. Recently we attained 2 members from One Nation to represent the youth on the Pastoral Council for the parish of St. Thérèse Catholic Church. Congratulations to Michael and Ezinne. They stand together to represent the voice of the mighty youth nation. We are the youth and we have a voice!
One Nation wants to become the next big thing! Join us on Facebook at OneNation at StTherese. Want more information? Ready to get on the list? Send an email to Karen Ferrara at firstname.lastname@example.org . Don’t miss another event. We want you to be a part of our family. I mean I don’t understand why you would not want to, we have done so much and plan to do much, much, much more! Our dreams are big but we can accomplish them together. Don’t be shy either, because you may come alone, but you won’t be alone once you walk thru the door.
